Avoid "consumer products" go with business ready or capable products. Ensure the system is appropriately updated and protected with Anti-Virus and Security patches, again keep these up to date. Think about what you load on to your business machines. iTunes is it absolutely necessary to run your business? I guess not, so why load it on to your business laptop? Hardware is cheap now, so please have a computer with iTunes loaded, I do, but its not my business computer, check if I visit you on-site with my laptop. Games etc also go the same way.
If your network has a server, then leave it to do serving, if you need another terminal, no problem buy one, even business class systems are becoming ridiculously cheap. The difficulty in doing all this is know how and time.
