When it comes to security, it can often be difficult to see the wood from the trees. Lets WITSS show you the way. Our approach is common sense based, we believe in defence in depth, think about an onion, to get at the core you need to peel away the layers. Your security system should be like the layers of the onion, you should need to peel away the layers to get at your information.
Example, access to the network should be secured either physically as in locked offices, network equipment in locked rooms etc or through the use of user-name / password access through a remote connection or wireless connection. Once connected to the network, you should also require to supply a user-name / password to get access to resources on the network like files, e-mail, etc. Or what about e-mail entering your network, it should be content checked by a perimeter system either hosted or internal, this would include checking for viruses and spam, then this is sent on to your own e-mail server and scanned again for viruses and spam using a different set of software. The underlining premise is that a compromise or failure of any one layer, still leaves you protected.
Yet again like our reliable IT the users also have their part to play. Treat all unsolicited e-mail as suspect. If your not expecting a document from someone, even a friend, then don't open it. Also be aware of where and to whom you give your e-mail address. Most importantly if you suspect something have us check it out for you. If your a new customer we can do this for free as part of your 1 hour free support offer.
